Cui Dongshu: China's automotive overseas production and sales system has completed a key transition from "product going abroad" to "industry going abroad."
On February 21st, Cui Dongshu, the secretary general of the China Passenger Car Association, stated that according to customs data, China's total car exports reached 8.32 million units by 2025. While this data has sparked some market skepticism, looking beyond the statistics of single car exports from a global perspective of the entire industry chain, the overseas sales of Chinese manufactured and self-owned brand cars have exceeded 9 million units. This number includes the direct exports of self-owned brand cars, exports from international car companies' bases in China, overseas assembly of KD parts, and sales from Chinese self-owned brand bases overseas. This not only represents a milestone achievement in the globalization of China's automobile industry, but also signifies that China's overseas production and sales system has completed a key transformation from "products going overseas" to "industry going overseas." Currently, the Chinese automobile industry is steadily advancing towards the goal of reaching 20 million units in overseas sales following a collaborative development pattern of complete cars, components, and overseas bases, in accordance with the development trends of the global automobile industry. This journey will not only reshape China's global position in the automobile industry, but also drive Chinese manufacturing to continue climbing up in the global value chain towards the high-end segment.
