Meta plans to purchase millions of Nvidia chips to expand AI capabilities.
Meta Platforms is expanding its partnership with Nvidia through a new agreement to purchase chips and other hardware worth billions of dollars to meet its artificial intelligence needs. The two companies announced on Tuesday that Meta plans to use millions of Nvidia Blackwell and Rubin GPUs and "deploy at scale" Nvidia's Grace and Vera CPUs to build its data centers. While Meta has been a customer of Nvidia for over a decade, this new initiative is expected to further tighten the integration of Meta, one of the largest developers of AI models, with Nvidia's hardware and software ecosystem. This expanded partnership is related to Meta's recent launch of the Meta Compute program, which aims to rapidly expand the company's artificial intelligence data center infrastructure. Nvidia plans to assist Meta in using AI tools to improve its WhatsApp instant messaging service and ensure the app's privacy, the two companies also announced on Tuesday that Nvidia will co-design Meta's next generation AI models.
