Media: The PCE data to be released next Friday will reveal clues as to whether the Federal Reserve has achieved its inflation target.
According to reports, shortly before the CPI report was released, US Treasury Secretary Bennett predicted that inflation "may rise to around 2% of the Federal Reserve's target by midyear". He was probably referring to the Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index at that time. Due to the government shutdown, the latest data is from core PCE inflation rate in November last year was 2.8%, and the core PCE Price Index in December is scheduled to be released on February 20, with current predictions putting the core inflation rate at 2.8%. It will take some time to know the data for January. Historically, the average increase in CPI is usually about 0.5 percentage points higher than PCE.
