At the Liberal Party meeting held on the 13th, Angus Taylor defeated incumbent leader Susan Lee and was elected as the new leader of the Liberal Party. In the election, Taylor won with 34 votes to 17 votes. As the leader of the Liberal Party, Taylor will also serve as the leader of the opposition coalition formed by the Liberal and National Parties. Taylor resigned from his position in the shadow cabinet led by Susan Lee on the 11th. The Liberal Party officially initiated the leadership selection process on the 12th and held a meeting the following day to conduct the election. This leadership change was sparked by the Liberal Party's recent low polling numbers and internal disagreements over leadership direction and strategy. The Liberal Party is one of Australia's major political parties and is the second largest party in the federal parliament after the ruling Labor Party. Susan Lee became the first female leader in the history of the Liberal Party when she took office in May 2025.
