Sudanese official: Conflict has caused the country's oil and energy industry to lose billions of dollars.
Sudan's Minister of Energy and Oil, Mutaz Musa, stated on February 12th local time that the armed conflicts in Sudan have caused billions of dollars in economic losses to the country's oil and energy industry, and the assessment of related damages is still ongoing. Musa pointed out that since the outbreak of armed conflicts, the basic infrastructure of the oil and energy industry has been severely damaged, with many oil fields and refineries forced to shut down. The country's largest refinery, the Khartoum Refinery, has been out of operation for a long time, resulting in approximately $6 billion in losses and now requires rebuilding from scratch. He also stated that Sudan's largest oil field, the Heglig Oilfield, had temporarily shut down at one point but has since resumed production.
