Analyst: Self-driving taxis are expected to be more widely used in the next five years.
Analysts at Macquarie wrote in a report that self-driving taxis will see wider adoption in the next five years as global supply increases and more operators meet local regulatory requirements. They stated that this is based on a significant shift in consumer behavior, indicating that consumers have high trust in autonomous driving systems. The analysts mentioned that the experience of self-driving taxis is significantly different from traditional taxis and ride-hailing services, and over time, passengers will increasingly prefer self-driving taxis. They added that the primary reasons users currently mention are privacy, cleanliness of the vehicle, consistent driving experience, and perceived higher safety. However, they noted that safety remains the biggest risk to its wider adoption. They mentioned that while systems are constantly improving, a major accident could hinder the pace of adoption and lead to stricter licensing approvals.
