Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng: The US should effectively abide by the One China principle and the three joint communiqus between China and the US.
On February 10th, the Chinese Embassy in the United States hosted a "Steady Progress in the Year of the Horse" Chinese New Year reception. Ambassador Xie Feng stated in his speech that regardless of the past, present, and future, there will always be differences and contradictions between China and the United States. The key is to respect each other's core interests and major concerns, and to set a safety valve for the China-US relationship. The Taiwan issue is the first red line that cannot be crossed. Because it concerns China's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, and touches the hearts of 1.4 billion Chinese people. Taiwan has belonged to China since ancient times, and as early as the mid-12th century, China began administrating Penghu and Taiwan. Documents with legal effect like the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Declaration, and UN Resolution 2758 adopted in 1971 further confirmed this. Ambassador Xie Feng emphasized that the One China principle is not only a general consensus in the international community, but also the political foundation for China-US relations to reopen doors of communication and gradually normalize. The "Three Joint Communiqus" between China and the United States are binding agreements reached by both parties, with the core being the One China principle. The greatest threat to peace in the Taiwan Strait currently comes from the separatist actions and provocative behavior of "Taiwan independence." The United States should adhere to the One China principle and the Three Joint Communiqus between China and the United States.
