Sources say that the United States has requested through multiple channels for South Korea to approve Google's export of high-precision map data to overseas; at the same time, the U.S. Trade Representative James Grier has expressed strong concerns about South Korea's non-tariff barriers. Within the South Korean government, there is growing recognition that even if South Korea accelerates and increases investment in the United States, it may be difficult to resolve potential tariff risks without addressing U.S. concerns about non-tariff barriers. Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Rick Switzer is scheduled to visit South Korea in the near future to discuss non-tariff barrier-related issues.
