Benson rebutted his and Trump's differing views on the US dollar.
US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin rebutted the claim that "he and US President Donald Trump have different views on the US dollar." Previously, Trump welcomed the recent decline in the US dollar, while Mnuchin advocated for a "strong dollar policy." When asked on CNBC last Friday to clarify where he stands between his recent statements and those of Trump, Mnuchin replied, "This is a false binary choice." On January 28, after Mnuchin stated that the US "always maintains a strong dollar policy" and that US officials did not intervene to weaken the dollar against the yen, the dollar strengthened. The day before, when Trump was asked if he was concerned about a depreciation of the US dollar, he replied, "No, I think it's good." Subsequently, the US dollar plummeted.
