Asian stock markets generally closed lower, following the downward trend on Wall Street, with investors' anxiety over large-scale AI capital spending plans dominating market sentiment. Samer Hasn of XS.com said that Anthropic's latest AI intelligence could bring a crisis to the software industry, overnight erasing the competitive moat of software-as-a-service providers. The analyst added that the market also seems to realize that the speed at which the AI arms race burns money may be faster than the speed at which profits are created, causing investors to question the investment return of tech giants in AI. This negative impact has spread across Asia, with the Korea Composite Stock Price Index closing down 1.4%. The Shanghai Composite Index fell by 0.25%, and the Hang Seng Index dropped by 1.2%. The Nikkei Index bucked the trend, rising 0.8% boosted by banking stocks.
