Residents on Hainan Island can purchase daily consumer goods with "zero tariffs" as needed.
Today, the Hainan Province Information Office held a press conference to introduce the "zero tariff" policy for imported goods consumed by residents in the Hainan Free Trade Port. During the press conference, it was announced that the first batch of 5 duty-free stores for daily consumer goods will be opened in the cities of Haikou, Sanya, and Danzhou, with all stores scheduled to open on February 11th. Lu Wei, Deputy Director of the Hainan Provincial Department of Commerce, stated that in order for residents to better enjoy the policy benefits and convenience during the opening period, the Department of Commerce has taken five key measures: strengthening publicity by providing shopping guides in an easy-to-understand manner, improving service levels at duty-free stores, optimizing product supply to meet diverse and quality shopping needs, implementing promotional activities during the opening period, and providing comprehensive guarantees to create a comfortable and convenient shopping environment. The Department of Commerce will ensure smooth operation of the opening and make sure that consumers can shop with peace of mind, effectively translating policy benefits into tangible benefits for the people. In addition, Lu Wei reminded residents that the zero tariff policy for daily consumer goods is different from the tax-free policy for departing passengers, and residents can buy as needed, so he hopes that consumers will shop rationally according to their needs.
