The US Treasury Secretary was accused of lying during the hearing.
On February 4th local time, US Treasury Secretary Benson attended a hearing of the House Financial Services Committee in the US Congress. Democratic Congressman Sean Casten mentioned during the meeting that before becoming the Secretary of the Treasury, Benson's investment company had written to customers saying, "The Trump administration will not implement tariffs" and "Tariffs will cause inflation." The New York Times reported that Benson had directly denied in a Senate hearing last year that tariffs would cause inflation. Casten then pressed Benson to choose whether to change his previous statements or admit that he lied. Benson replied, "If I was wrong before, I want to correct it. When I said 'tariffs may cause inflation' before, that was also a misjudgment on my part."
