The collision between the Greek coast guard and a smuggling boat resulted in 15 deaths and 24 injuries.

On February 4th local time, the Greek Coast Guard issued a statement stating that on the evening of February 3rd local time, near the island of Chios in the eastern Aegean Sea, an inflatable boat carrying illegal immigrants collided with a patrol boat of the coast guard, causing all the people on board the boat to fall into the water. 14 people died on the spot, and another person died due to serious injuries after being taken to the hospital. 22 immigrants and 2 coast guard officers were injured. Currently, Greek coast guard vessels and Greek Air Force helicopters are still searching the area for possible survivors.
