Two UK regulatory agencies announced on the 3rd that they are conducting investigations into the misuse of the AI chatbot "Grok" from the perspectives of data protection and platform security, based on different laws. The UK Information Commissioner's Office issued a statement on the same day saying that they have launched formal investigations into X Internet Unlimited Company and AI enterprise xAI Company under relevant UK data protection laws, including the handling of personal data related to "Grok" and the potential issue of the system generating harmful pornographic images and videos. Also on that day, the UK Communications Authority issued a statement saying that they are "urgently progressing" with their formal investigation into the X platform launched last month, to determine whether the platform has failed to comply with legal obligations stipulated in the Online Safety Act. The agency also stated that due to limitations in the laws underpinning this investigation concerning AI chatbots, they can only take action based on their existing powers, and they are not currently investigating xAI Company.
