People's Daily Comment: Running towards the "acceleration" of green transformation.
In the recently released Chinese economic annual report, a data point has symbolic significance: by 2025, the proportion of new energy vehicles in China's domestic new car sales will exceed 50%. Looking back at the "New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan" issued by the State Council Office in 2020, the target at that time was to reach around 20% of new energy vehicle sales as a percentage of total new car sales by 2025. The achievement far exceeds expectations. New energy vehicles are entering millions of households, reflecting the deeply-rooted concept of green consumption and highlighting the surging momentum of China's economic and social green transformation. Some people worried about whether the green transformation would affect the speed of development. The results for 2025 provide an answer: China's GDP exceeded 140 trillion yuan, a 5.0% increase from the previous year; the energy consumption per unit added value of major energy-consuming industries such as large-scale construction materials, steel, and non-ferrous metals have significantly decreased. The vigorous development of green productivity makes the change in the momentum of economic growth clear and palpable, and the momentum of high-quality development is becoming even stronger.
