Alleged manipulation of consumer goods prices, 52 South Korean corporate executives facing prosecution.
On the 2nd day, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in South Korea reported that since September 2025, they have sued 52 executives of 12 companies, who are accused of manipulating food prices and colluding in electricity equipment tenders, pushing up prices of flour, sugar, electricity equipment and other commodities closely related to people's livelihoods, seriously disrupting market order, with an amount involved nearly 100 trillion Korean won. The prosecutors also reported that CJ CheilJedang Corporation and Samyang Corporation are accused of conspiring to adjust the range and timing of sugar price changes from February 2021 to April 2025, with the sugar price rising by as much as 66.7% during these four years and an amount involved approximately 32.7 trillion Korean won. 2 executives of these two companies have been detained for prosecution, while another 9 people have been prosecuted without detention. Multiple executives of 10 other companies have been accused of colluding in electricity equipment tenders and facing prosecution.
