The military government of Burkina Faso announced the dissolution of all political parties and organizations.
On January 29th, the incumbent head of state of Burkina Faso, Traore, chaired a meeting and passed a decree requiring the dissolution of all political parties and organizations in the country. According to the Burkina Faso military government, this move is part of the process of rebuilding the nation and reforming political governance. The sharp increase in the number of political parties has exacerbated divisions among the people and weakened social cohesion. Additionally, the decree explicitly states that the assets of dissolved political parties and organizations will be transferred to the state.
