On Tuesday night local time, Amazon (AMZN.O) employees unexpectedly received an early meeting invitation email from company executives, adding new worries to employees who are already facing expectations of thousands of layoffs. According to the email, Amazon Senior Vice President Colleen Aubrey sent an email notifying the meeting titled "Dawn Plan", which was originally scheduled for Wednesday morning but has now been canceled. The email stated that "affected colleagues" in the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica regions have been notified and mentioned additional information to be sent separately by Beth Galetti, the head of human resources (although this information did not seem to have actually been sent). "Such changes are difficult for everyone to bear," Aubrey wrote in the email, "These decisions are very difficult but have been carefully considered to lay the groundwork for the success of our organization and Amazon Web Services in the future." Amazon had initiated large-scale layoffs last October, cutting 14,000 corporate positions and significantly downsizing the video game department.
