Canada releases long-term population outlook: Under high growth scenarios, population could exceed 75 million.
Although the Canadian government has imposed restrictions on immigration policies, the country's population is still expected to continue to grow in the coming decades. According to data from Statistics Canada, the national population reached 41.5 million as of July 1st last year. Based on the agency's multiple scenario forecasts, by 2075, the Canadian population may fluctuate within the following ranges: Low growth scenario: reaching 44 million people; Medium growth scenario: reaching 57.4 million people; High growth scenario: reaching 75.8 million people. In all scenarios, it is expected that Ontario and Quebec will continue to maintain their position as the provinces with the highest population in the next 25 years. In almost all prediction models, the population of Alberta is projected to surpass British Columbia. The Statistics Canada also points out that the long-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the population still remains uncertain.
