Microsoft is launching its second-generation artificial intelligence chip. This is a core part of the company's efforts to more efficiently support its services and provide alternative solutions for Nvidia's products. The "Maia 200" chip, produced by TSMC, is currently being sent to Microsoft data centers in Iowa and will soon be deployed in the Phoenix area. Microsoft invited developers to start using the control software for Maia 200 on Monday, but it is not clear when users of the company's Azure cloud services will be able to use servers equipped with this chip. Microsoft's Chief Cloud and Artificial Intelligence Officer Scott Guthrie said the first batch of chips will be sent to Microsoft's Super Intelligence team for generating data to optimize the next generation of artificial intelligence models, cloud services, and artificial intelligence systems. These chips will also be used to power the "Copilot" assistant for enterprise services, as well as various artificial intelligence models, including the latest version of OpenAI, rented to cloud customers by Microsoft.
