European rating agency Scope: Tension in US-Europe relations damages credit prospects for both sides.
The unpredictability of US President Donald Trump in foreign affairs and the pressure it puts on transatlantic relations are impacting Scope Ratings' outlook for sovereign countries on both sides of the Atlantic. Analysts Alvise Lennkh-Yunus and Eiko Sievert from the Berlin-based rating agency evaluated recent events in their report on Friday, warning of cautious optimism in Europe, but noting that this optimism could be tested by disputes over Greenland, Russia's actions, or deteriorating domestic political situations in countries such as France, Poland, and Germany. Scope also pointed out that the "increasing cracks" caused by the Trump administration's actions are also affecting the US credit outlook.
