Market analysis: The threshold for the Reserve Bank of Australia to raise interest rates in February is not considered high.
The threshold for the Australian central bank to raise interest rates in February is not high. Citigroup economist Faraz Syed said that a trimmed mean inflation rate of 0.8% for the quarter could be enough to trigger a rate hike. Citigroup predicts this figure to be 0.9%, but sees a risk of the trimmed mean inflation rate being recorded at 0.8%. He said that despite the presence of disruptive information, strong overall inflation and continuously rising trimmed mean inflation suggest that if the trimmed mean inflation rate is 0.9% or even 0.8%, the Australian central bank will raise interest rates by 25 basis points in February.
