On the 22nd local time, the Colombian government announced that it would impose a 30% tariff on 20 imported goods from Ecuador as a "proportionate, temporary, and reviewable" measure in response to changes in bilateral trade conditions. Colombian Minister of Trade, Industry, and Tourism, Morales, stated that the decision "does not constitute a sanction or confrontation action", but rather a legitimate means for Colombia to restore trade balance and protect the national production system. On the 21st, Ecuadorian President Noyoa announced that starting from February 1st, a 30% "security surcharge tax" would be levied on imported goods from Colombia.
