On January 22, Teresa Cheng, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Bureau, spoke at the Legislative Council meeting regarding the motion proposed by lawmaker Yiu Si-wing on "formulating the development vision for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and actively connecting with the country's 15th Five-Year Plan." She stated that there is a high degree of continuity between the country's 14th and 15th Five-Year Plans, both of which clearly support Hong Kong in building an international innovation and technology center. The country's 15th Five-Year Plan proposes to build a modern industrial system, accelerate high-level scientific and technological self-reliance, and lead the development of new productive forces. The SAR government will fully cooperate with the country's science and technology innovation development strategy, actively connect with the 15th Five-Year Plan development, enhance autonomous innovation capabilities, foster new productive forces, promote the integration of scientific and industrial innovation, and build a new entity economy with scientific and technological innovation as the mainstay. Furthermore, efforts will be made to further enhance the coordinated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, better integrate into and serve the national development plan, and contribute to the country's high-quality development and high-level scientific and technological self-reliance. Cheng continued to optimize and adjust the layout of innovation and technology in Hong Kong in line with national deployment. In addition to the Science Park and Cyberport, the Heitou Hong Kong Park officially opened at the end of last year, forming a new development pattern with three major innovation and technology parks and five major research and development institutions. Efforts will focus on accelerating the development of innovation and technology land in the Heitou Hong Kong Park and the New Territories, which will serve as an important link for coordinated development in the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors, providing comprehensive support for the innovation and technology industry and serving as a major technology platform for better connecting with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and national strategic development.
