Monica Guerra of Morgan Stanley Wealth Management stated in a report that the 2026 U.S. midterm election season has begun, and President Trump has acknowledged the importance of the Republican Party maintaining control of Congress, as Democratic control of the House, Senate, or both could lead to various political stalemates. The U.S. policy chief said, "We believe that control of the House may be at play as the President's support has dropped from 50% at the start of his second term to 44% currently." She said this change is especially important because the President's approval rating can be interpreted as a nationwide referendum on the party's performance in non-presidential elections. She also noted that historically, since 1922, the party of the incumbent president has on average lost 30 seats in the House during midterm elections.
