According to the Spring Festival Travel Office in Shanghai, due to the impact of the extended Chinese New Year holiday, Shanghai's total inbound and outbound passenger volume during the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush is expected to reach 49.15 million, a year-on-year increase of 5%, reaching a new historical high. Among them, railway transportation is expected to increase by 6% year-on-year, civil aviation by a slight increase of 1%, and road passenger transport to decrease by 5% year-on-year. Before the festival, influenced by the combined flows of returning home, visiting relatives, students, and holiday tourism, the peak of outbound passenger flow in Shanghai during the 2026 Spring Festival travel rush is expected to occur around February 14th, with a daily outbound volume of 1.08 million passengers, a 4% increase from the peak in the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush. After the festival, the return passenger flow is expected to peak on February 23rd, with a daily arrival volume of 1.14 million passengers, an 8% increase from the peak in the 2025 Spring Festival travel rush.
