Macron: The United States openly attempts to weaken and control Europe.
French President Macron said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on the 20th that the trade agreement between Europe and the United States harms Europe's interests. The United States is forcing Europe to make concessions to the maximum extent and openly attempting to weaken and control Europe, which is "unacceptable." Macron stated that the US's actions, combined with the accumulation of new tariffs, are fundamentally unacceptable - especially when these tariffs are used as a means to infringe on territorial sovereignty. Macron said that France and Europe are committed to upholding national sovereignty and independence, and adhere to the United Nations Charter. He called for strengthening European autonomy and defending multilateralism. With President Trump's attempt to annex Greenland, Macron said NATO is now a "weakened institution." He hopes that during France's presidency of the G7 this year, the G7 Summit can be transformed into a platform for "frank dialogue" and "cooperative solutions."
