The EU representative said that the tariff threat issued by the United States on the Greenland issue could potentially make the United States and the EU poorer.
EU foreign affairs chief Karas said that the practice of US President Trump threatening to impose tariffs on some European countries to force Denmark to sell Greenland will not work. She said, "I want to make it clear that Greenland belongs to its people. No threats or tariffs can change that. Sovereignty is not negotiable." She said at a European Parliament debate in Strasbourg, France, "Tariff threats will not force Denmark to hand over Greenland. They will only make Europe and the US poorer and harm our common responsibility." "We have no intention of stirring up disputes, but we will stand our ground."
