For the first time, the number of detained immigrants in the United States has exceeded 70,000.
According to a report from the Russian news agency on January 17th, the American Columbia Broadcasting System cited data from the US Department of Homeland Security, reporting that as of mid-January, the number of detained immigrants in the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reached 73,000, a historic high. In November 2025, the number of detainees in ICE had reached a record of 66,000. According to the Columbia Broadcasting System, "As of the 15th, ICE has detained about 73,000 people nationwide, who face the risk of deportation, which is the highest record of detainees for the agency." It is reported that for the first time in the 23-year history of the agency, the number of detainees has exceeded 70,000. It is known that approximately 67,000 of them are single adults who are at risk of deportation for alleged violations of immigration laws. There are also 6,000 married individuals with minor children. About 34,000 detainees in the United States have been charged with or convicted of criminal offenses.
