UN officials call on all parties in Sudan conflict to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.
On January 18th, local time, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Trk, called on all parties involved in the armed conflict in Sudan to effectively protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, and ensure that humanitarian aid can enter all regions of Sudan without obstruction. Trk made the statement in the eastern city of Port Sudan, Sudan, emphasizing that attacks on critical civilian infrastructure seriously violate international humanitarian law and may constitute war crimes. He urged all parties in the conflict to immediately cease attacks on civilian facilities such as markets, hospitals, schools, and refugee camps, and to provide safe passage for civilians.
