Director of the National Bureau of Statistics: In 2026, China has the foundation and conditions to maintain stable and positive economic operation.
On January 19, Kang Yi, director of the National Bureau of Statistics, said at a press conference organized by the State Council Information Office that since the beginning of the year, there have been positive changes in production price expectations, and the trend of stable economic progress is continuing. In December 2025, the value added of the service industry above designated size, as well as the service industry production index, both saw faster year-on-year growth compared to the previous month; core CPI inflation has also remained above 1% for four consecutive months, while PPI year-on-year decline has narrowed and month-on-month has been rising for three consecutive months; both the manufacturing PMI and the non-manufacturing business activity index have returned to the expansion zone. In terms of policy support, the State Council meeting has deployed a package of policies to implement coordinated fiscal and financial measures. The expansion of domestic demand, as well as the optimization of the "two new" policies, have created favorable conditions for the economic start this year. Looking at the entire year of 2026, the long-term favorable conditions and basic trends supporting the good development of the Chinese economy remain unchanged, the trend towards high-quality development has not changed, and there is a foundation and conditions to maintain stable and positive economic operation.
