South Korea: Short-term impact of U.S. chip tariffs limited.
South Korean Minister of Trade stated on Saturday that the announcement by the United States to impose a 25% tariff on certain advanced computing chips will have a limited impact on South Korean companies. "Although the government maintained a cautious attitude in the initial stage, the first phase measures announced by the United States are mainly targeting advanced chips produced by Nvidia and AMD," the South Korean Minister of Trade pointed out. "Considering that the memory chips that South Korean companies mainly export are currently not included in the tariff range, it is expected that the short-term impact of this policy will be very limited." He emphasized, "It is not yet time to relax." He emphasized that the timing and scope of potential second-phase measures are still uncertain. He added that the South Korean government will continue to closely cooperate with the industry to seek the best results for South Korean companies.
