China's fusion acceleration towards industrialization, with the BEST device construction progressing quickly.

At the 2026 Fusion Energy Technology and Industry Conference held in Hefei, Anhui Province on January 16th, it was learned that China's fusion is accelerating from scientific research to engineering construction. The compact fusion energy experimental device will strive to light up the "first lamp" of human fusion energy by 2030. The conference also announced the plan to build a "Fusion City" in Changfeng County, Hefei City, Anhui Province, which will be a fusion science and technology innovation and demonstration zone, with planning for innovation source area, industrial gathering area, and living supporting area. It will focus on major engineering projects, concentrate on mainstream technology paths such as tokamak, improve the "laying eggs along the way" mechanism, accelerate the transformation and application of derivative technologies, and promote the application of fusion technology in scenarios in other fields.
