Journalists learned from a news conference on January 16 jointly organized by multiple departments that China is about to enter the stage of large-scale retirement of power batteries. According to estimates by relevant research institutions, the amount of waste power batteries generated in 2030 will exceed 1 million tons. Wen Xuefeng, Deputy Director of the Solid Waste and Chemicals Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, said that power batteries contain metal resources such as nickel, cobalt, manganese, and lithium, as well as toxic and harmful substances such as fluorine compounds. If not properly recycled, it will not only pollute the environment but also waste resources. The management measures released this time clearly state the requirements of "scraping vehicles and batteries together," and strengthen the management of power battery recycling and utilization through legal means, effectively regulating the behavior of all parties involved in various links.
