Escape from two years of recession, the German economy will achieve a slight growth in 2025.
Preliminary data released by the German Federal Statistical Office on the 15th showed that after adjusting for prices, Germany's gross domestic product in 2025 actually increased by 0.2% compared to the previous year, ending two consecutive years of contraction. Rolf Bland, the head of the German Federal Statistical Office, said at a press conference that day that the German economy achieved slight growth after two years of recession, mainly due to increased household and government consumption; while exports declined again due to unfavorable factors such as increased tariffs by the United States and the strength of the euro.
The data shows that after adjusting for prices, household consumption in Germany in 2025 increased by 1.4%, and government consumption increased by 1.5%. Due to the decline in exports of cars, machinery and chemical products, Germany's exports declined by 0.3% in 2025, marking the third consecutive year of decline; while imports increased by 3.6%. In terms of industries, the value added of the manufacturing sector in Germany decreased by 1.3% year-on-year in 2025, marking the third consecutive year of contraction, with significant declines in the automotive and machinery manufacturing industries. In addition, the number of employed people in Germany in 2025 was 46 million, which was basically unchanged from the previous year.
