Standard Chartered Bank: Global economy may pivot towards fiscal stimulus in 2026.
In Standard Chartered Bank's Chief Strategist Eric Robertson's 2026 Economic Outlook report, he pointed out that the core theme of the global economy will shift from monetary stimulus to fiscal stimulus. He predicts that more countries will shift to fiscal spending this year, which means increased government borrowing, and debt sustainability will become the focus of global economic debates. Robertson also notes that market liquidity may reverse its expansion trend after reaching multi-year highs in 2025. Additionally, he believes that inflation risks may be underestimated. With liquidity accelerating into the real economy, fiscal stimulus increasing, and living costs remaining high, these trends may increasingly put central banks in a passive situation.
