The Ministry of Natural Resources announced today that during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, a total of 3.35 million mu of historical abandoned mines have been restored and managed nationwide, exceeding 19.6% of the target task of restoring and managing more than 2.8 million mu, achieving good ecological and economic benefits. 68 demonstration projects for the ecological restoration of historical abandoned mines have been deployed and implemented in key areas such as the Yangtze River, Yellow River, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and the "Three-North" region. Through demonstration and guidance, an ecological restoration model of "central guidance + local implementation + social participation" has been effectively promoted for historical abandoned mine ecological restoration across the country. According to statistics, more than 18,000 abandoned mines have been restored nationwide through the implementation of demonstration projects, nearly 7,000 geological hazard points have been eliminated, more than 250,000 mu of slopes and pits have been treated, approximately 26,000 mu of new farmland and orchards have been added, more than 150,000 mu of new forests, grasslands, and wetlands have been increased, effectively improving the ecological and living environment of mining areas, and enhancing the value of land use for mining damage and abandonment. The Ministry of Natural Resources emphasized that the next step will continue to strengthen the supervision of ecological restoration of mining areas, solidly carry out the ecological restoration of historical abandoned mines while curbing the increment, guide localities to adhere to the principle of adapting measures to local conditions and using targeted measures, and promote the "zero clearance" of historical abandoned mines in areas with conditions.
