The eighth session of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region held its first meeting today, with Chief Executive Carrie Lam delivering a speech to all members. Lam stated that the Legislative Council plays a significant role, and the key tasks ahead include integrating Hong Kong into the national development plan, actively engaging with the national "15th Five-Year Plan," and promoting reforms to support the post-fire recovery work in Tai Po. Lam encouraged all Legislative Council members to take on responsibilities courageously, perform their duties actively, and assured that the SAR government values and will listen to the opinions of Legislative Council members. It is reported that this is the first time in the nearly 28-year history of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Legislative Council that a Chief Executive has delivered a speech at the first meeting of their term in accordance with Article 8 of the Rules of Procedure.
