Apple and Qualcomm are competing to purchase high-end electronic-grade glass fiber cloth.
Due to the surge in demand caused by the AI boom, the high-end electronic grade glass fiber cloth produced by Nisshinbo has been in short supply, leading companies like Apple and Qualcomm to compete for the purchase of glass fiber cloth for chip substrates and printed circuit boards. Apple has dispatched employees to Japan and stationed them at Mitsubishi Gas Chemical in an attempt to ensure a steady supply of materials for chip advanced packaging BT substrates. Mitsubishi Gas Chemical requires Nisshinbo's glass fiber cloth to produce BT substrates. Mitsubishi Gas Chemical responded by stating that its relevant business departments are closely consulting with major customers, including both direct and indirect, to seek solutions to the current material supply issues. Qualcomm has visited another smaller Japanese glass fiber cloth supplier, Yokomai Chemical, to explore options for easing the supply bottleneck.
