U.S. media reports: Over 50 Democratic Party members of Congress signed a letter supporting the impeachment of the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security.
The American Axios news website exclusively revealed on the 13th local time that over 50 Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives had jointly signed a document to bring impeachment charges against U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. The report said that the impeachment charges, set to be formally announced on the 14th local time, will include three accusations against Nielsen: firstly, "obstruction of Congress' operations", including denying congressmen access to DHS facilities and withholding disaster relief funds allocated by Congress; secondly, "violation of public trust", including allegedly depriving individuals detained by ICE of their due process rights and violating the First and Fourth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution; thirdly, "conflict of interest", with reports alleging that Nielsen awarded a $220 million contract to a company run by her spokesperson's husband.
