The S&P 500 index closed down 0.2% preliminarily, as JPMorgan Chase kicked off the fourth-quarter earnings season. The financial sector fell 1.9%, the consumer discretionary sector fell 0.5%, and the energy sector rose 1.4%. The Nasdaq 100 index closed down 0.2% preliminarily, with Atlassian falling 5.8%, Adobe falling 5.4%, Pinduoduo ADR falling over 5%, NVIDIA falling 3.6%, AMD rising 6.3%, Strategy rising 6.5%, and Intel rising 7.3%. Salesforce closed down 7.1% preliminarily, Visa fell 4.3%, JPMorgan Chase fell 4.2%, leading the Dow Jones component stocks. Cisco, Boeing, and Johnson & Johnson rose 1.9%, while Walmart rose 2%. The Philadelphia Bank Index fell 1.3%.
