World Health Organization calls for regulating the prices of sugary and alcoholic beverages to protect public health.
The World Health Organization released a report on the 13th, stating that due to the low tax rates in most countries, the prices of sugary and alcoholic beverages are getting lower, exacerbating issues such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and injuries, particularly affecting children and adolescents. The WHO released two reports on the global taxation of sugary and alcoholic beverages that day, pointing out that due to the low tax rates in most countries, the weak tax system allows these harmful products to remain cheap, leading to an increasing financial burden on health systems due to noncommunicable diseases and injuries. The WHO called on countries to redesign and increase relevant taxes.
