Overseas insurers can set up insurance asset management in Shenzhen directly, and the market worth 2.7 trillion yuan is open for upgrades.

Recently, the Ministry of Commerce issued the "Comprehensive Pilot Task for Expanding the Opening up of the Service Industry in 9 Cities including Dalian". Shenzhen, as one of the pilot cities, has received various key policy support. Item 50 of the "Pilot Task" explicitly supports eligible foreign-funded institutions to establish or participate in pension management companies in Shenzhen. At the same time, under the premise of compliance with laws and regulations, controllable risks, and sustainable business, exploration is being carried out to support overseas insurance institutions in establishing insurance asset management companies in Shenzhen. Data shows that there are currently 37 insurance asset management companies in China, with 4 being wholly foreign-owned and 3 planned to be established by 2025. As of now, there are 4 registered insurance asset management companies in Shenzhen, with an industry scale of around 2.71 trillion yuan by the end of 2024. On January 13th, it was reported that relevant departments in Shenzhen have organized meetings to study the document. The four registered insurance asset management companies in Shenzhen are Sunshine Asset Management, Jianxin Insurance Asset Management, Life Insurance Asset Management, and Huaxia Jiuying Asset Management. According to the 2025 Shenzhen International Wealth Management Center Insight Report, the total asset size of insurance asset management institutions in Shenzhen reached 2.71 trillion yuan by the end of 2024, accounting for approximately 9% of the total market size. Among them, Sunshine Asset Management had assets of 0.7 trillion yuan, Jianxin Insurance Asset Management had assets of 0.4 trillion yuan, Life Insurance Asset Management had assets of 0.4 trillion yuan, Huaxia Jiuying Asset Management had assets of 0.4 trillion yuan, and the assets of the other 10 locally-regulated insurance companies in Shenzhen amounted to 0.6 trillion yuan.
