Ninon Bachet of France's Societe Generale Bank stated in a report that the issuance of long-term government bonds in the Eurozone may decrease this year, and a shift in issuance strategy will create opportunities, especially in Germany and Italy. The interest rate strategist mentioned that 15-20 year bonds are the new 30-year variety. "Over the past two years, the weighted average maturity of newly issued bonds has shortened, and we expect this trend to continue as financing costs remain high, yield curves are steep, and long-term demand weakens," she said. She added that Germany will reduce issuance of 30-year bonds, while Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Finland may follow suit, but the 15-20 year bond sector is expected to be more active.
