The spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in the UK has once again responded to questions from reporters regarding the British side's exaggeration of the so-called "Chinese espionage threat".
Reporter: Some British media recently reported again that some individuals in the UK have been in contact with false accounts online, which actively send them information. These accounts may be set up by the Chinese national security department. What is your comment on this?
Embassy Spokesperson: I already answered a similar question on November 18th. The claim that the Chinese government recruits individuals through false accounts or seeks to influence the UK is completely groundless and malicious slander. We strongly condemn this.
China is one of the main victims of online fraud and cyber attacks. We have found that many accounts involved in online scams and malicious attacks actually originate from overseas, including from the UK. For years, we have been fighting against such online behavior. We will continue to rigorously crack down on all forms of malicious online behavior in accordance with the law, regardless of where they originate.
We firmly oppose some individuals in the UK constantly bringing up China, maliciously spreading false information. We urge relevant parties in the UK to stop slandering and smearing China, and to stop deceiving and misleading public opinion.
