Samsung Electronics announced on Friday the appointment of TM Roh, head of mobile business, as the new co-CEO, also taking on the role of head of the device experience department. This department oversees Samsung's mobile phones, TVs, and home appliance business. This appointment marks Samsung reverting back to the traditional co-CEO structure, where the management responsibilities of the chip department and consumer electronics department are separated. Previously, due to the unexpected death of co-CEO Han Jong-Hee in March of this year, Samsung briefly operated under a single CEO model. Since Han Jong-Hee's passing, Roh has been serving as the interim head of the consumer electronics business since April. Earlier this month, Samsung also appointed a new head of the business support office. The business support office is the core decision-making body of this tech giant, directly serving Chairman Lee Jae-yong. Analysts say that this office has been upgraded from a previous "task force" to now become the core strategic department within the Samsung Group, essentially a "mini command center." Samsung Group is South Korea's largest conglomerate, with businesses spanning chips, smartphones, shipbuilding, pharmaceuticals, and more; and the core function of the business support office is to coordinate the operations of various business units and subsidiaries within the group.
