According to reports, four sources revealed that oil giants Total Energies and ExxonMobil have emerged as front-runners in the bidding for a 40% stake in the operating rights of the Mopane oil field in Namibia held by energy company Galp. A series of significant discoveries suggest that this southern African country could become one of the top 15 oil-producing countries in the world in the next ten years, prompting oil companies to flock to Namibia despite the country not currently producing any oil or gas. The estimated reserves of the Mopane oil field are at least 10 billion barrels, and Galp hopes to announce the winning bidder by the end of the year. Total Energies and ExxonMobil declined to comment.
