Insiders say that the United States plans to approve the first sale of advanced artificial intelligence chips to the Saudi AI company, Humain. This move comes as Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman meets with US President Donald Trump, marking a victory for this Saudi government-supported company. Insiders, who requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the discussions, suggest that the approval is expected to be part of a broader AI cooperation agreement between the US and Saudi Arabia. These sources reveal that the agreement could be finalized as early as this week; under the agreement, the US government will take a positive stance on export applications for a certain number of AI chips to Saudi Arabia - since 2023, the import and transport of such chips by Saudi Arabia has required permission from the US government. Insiders add that this bilateral agreement may not only streamline the approval process for shipping AI chips to Humain, but also help American companies with projects in Saudi Arabia obtain relevant permits. Recently, the US government has issued similar permits to American hyperscale cloud computing companies building data centers in the UAE, which like Saudi Arabia, is subject to US restrictions on chip exports.
