The US government continues to push forward with the dismantling of the Department of Education plan, announcing on the 18th that it will transfer some functions of the Department of Education to other federal government agencies. According to a statement released by the US Department of Education on the 18th, the Department of Education has signed agreements with the Department of Labor, Health and Human Services, the Department of the Interior, and the Department of State to transfer 6 major functions currently carried out by the Department of Education to these 4 federal government agencies. The statement said that under the agreements, the Department of Labor will take on the responsibility for kindergarten through high school education programs and the majority of higher education funding programs, the Department of Health and Human Services will take over programs providing services for students balancing academics and parenting as well as certification programs for foreign medical schools, the Department of the Interior will take over the American Indian Education Office, and the Department of State will take on more functions related to international education. US Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos said in the statement that the government is breaking the shackles of federal education agencies and returning education rights to the states.
