China takes the lead in setting standards and addressing industry gaps in chicken slaughtering, now meeting international standards.
Recently, it was learned from the National Livestock and Poultry Slaughter Quality Standard Innovation Center that the international standard ISO 19599:2025 "Chicken Slaughter Operation Procedures," led by China, has been officially released on the official website of the International Organization for Standardization. This standard is the first international standard led by China in the field of poultry slaughter, filling the long-standing gap in the global lack of unified international standards in the field of chicken slaughter, marking that China's practices and wisdom in this field have gained world recognition. The standard details the pre-slaughter requirements, operating procedures, storage specifications, and other technical details throughout the chicken slaughter process, covering key dimensions such as hygiene conditions, equipment requirements, and animal welfare. After being reviewed by experts from multiple countries, it was recognized as "procedurally standardized, scientifically sound, and highly instructive and operational," providing a scientific, unified, and highly operational "Chinese solution" for the global poultry slaughter industry. It is reported that the development of this standard took more than two years, underwent 6 international expert technical discussions, and in the final voting stage, received a high approval rate of 95% from 18 ISO formal members, reflecting a broad international consensus.
